another rife testament
that She still lives

stir’d by voices
in peripheral eyes—
flinch and freeze

blind palms to invisible walls

side to side
front to back
finding no way out—
despair’d back to stone
and frozen orbs—
till virgin curiosity approaches
nearer and nearer
only to gasp in brief horror
