Someone’s Perfect Spot

a couple of arboreal neighbors
sharing a daytime scene—

hearing Nature’s tongue
an avenue of rippling voices
cheerful expressions
their sisters joining in the fast lane
making wishes to go on forever—

away from honking brake lights
away from cement
away from the Cloud—

hoping for Today’s twin
be Tomorrow

Snake

I am fear’d
I am eschew’d
I am hunt’d
I am food
I am medicine
I am a pet
I am charm’d
I am admir’d
I am worship’d

I am a Serpent
   … with Respect

Sedona

psychical energies
on a lightning carousel

chasing façades
to unknowns

enhancing cognizance
in search of a cure for the soul

Pressing Your Luck

a wish on every tap of a button
a cheer on every win
a frown on every loss

yet despite many bells and whistles
at day’s end
The House is in the Black

… and always will be

In Style

It’s pouring with rain

He’s got his warm clothes
umbrella and backpack
but most importantly—his skateboard

He’s ready for school

Point Loma

catch a glimpse
one’s eyes
through a break
in the coastal ridgescape

transport the mind
to 16th century
to Juan Cabrillo
soldier explorer

the birth
of European boots
to engrave this western shore

the placenta

of California
